A Florida jury has awarded the husband of a same-sex couple more than $157 million after his spouse died from lung cancer caused by smoking cigarettes. The potentially landmark case is also a victory for gay couples nationwide. Fort Lauderdale attorney Scott Schlesinger represented the husband, Bryan Rintoul, who lost the love of his life, Edward Caprio. Scott has successfully sued Big Tobacco many times. He also has a number of lawsuits pending against e-cigarette maker Juul, owned by Atria, which also owns RJ Reynolds and Phillip Morris, the defendants in this case.
